Sanjay Singh, presently under judicial detention, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 4, 2023, subsequent to searches conducted at his residence in Delhi. The federal agency alleges that an employee of businessman Dinesh Arora delivered Rs. 2 crores to Singh's residence on two separate occasions.

Singh's apprehension ensued allegations levied by Arora, who subsequently became a witness for both the ED and CBI investigations. The ED contended that it possessed digital evidence to confront Singh with.

In February of the current year, the Delhi High Court dismissed Singh's petition for bail. This decision followed a previous denial in October of the preceding year of Singh's plea challenging his arrest and detention in connection with the money laundering probe.

Consequently, the Supreme Court entertained two special leave petitions submitted by the detained MP. The initial plea contested his arrest and detention in the money laundering inquiry, while the second sought bail.
